LANSING, MI – With the February 21 deadline rapidly approaching, the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) is calling on the Michigan Legislature to reach a compromise on paid sick leave and minimum wage laws, including the restoration of the tip credit. Employers and employees alike deserve clarity on these critical issues, and legislative inaction would be devastating for businesses across Michigan.

“For months, we have emphasized the need for a balanced solution that protects both Michigan businesses and workers,” said Tim Daman, President & CEO of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. “Businesses are counting on lawmakers to deliver results that strike the right balance between employer flexibility and employee protections. If a legislative solution cannot be finalized by the deadline, we strongly urge the Legislature to approve an extension to allow for a thoughtful, practical resolution.”

For businesses seeking guidance on compliance, the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce has launched a dedicated resource page at www.lansingchamber.org, which provides detailed information and support. Additionally, the LRCC will host an upcoming Policy & Regulatory Business Education session on February 19, 2025, from Noon – 1 p.m., to help businesses prepare for potential legislative outcomes.

“We are at a critical juncture, and way too much is at stake for the business community,” said Daman. “Michigan’s businesses need certainty, and we are urging the Legislature to act swiftly.”
