Michigan Health and Hospital Association Executive to Receive the ATHENA Award During Presentation Scheduled for Thursday, December 8, 2011
(Lansing, MI) - The Lansing Regional Chamber (LRCC) has named Nancy McKeague this year’s ATHENA award winner. McKeague will receive her award during a luncheon scheduled as follows:
Annual Athena Award Luncheon
December 8, 2011
11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center
“I am very humbled to have received this award from the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce and to be among the many influential women of our community who have been honored in the past,” said McKeague. “I hope to continue the tradition of past ATHENA recipients by sharing my knowledge and inspiring others.”
McKeague serves as senior vice president and chief human resources officer for the Michigan Health and Hospital Association (MHA), where she heads the association’s Corporate Support Services Division. She has been credited with transforming the culture at MHA, where she established the “Emerging Leaders” program for young professionals. McKeague has also strengthened the MHA’s support for staff members who pursue advanced education degrees, and has personally mentored numerous female executives in the early stages of their careers. Under her leadership, the MHA has won the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in 2009 and 2010 and was named one of the Best Places to Work in Healthcare 2010 nationally by Modern Healthcare. Prior to her work at MHA, McKeague spent 13 years as a lobbyist for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and five years as the President of the Michigan Insurance Federation.
McKeague has participated in many community service initiatives for organizations such as the Michigan Society of Association Executives, the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Human Resource Management Association of Mid-Michigan. She is also a member of the Sparrow Physicians Health Network Board of Directors, as well as Accident Fund Holdings and the Michigan Fitness Foundation.
“Nancy has served as a visible role model for aspiring women executives throughout the Lansing region,” said executive vice president of operations Brian Peters, who nominated McKeague for the ATHENA award. “She has gone above and beyond her day-to-day professional responsibilities to volunteer for charitable efforts, political events, and many other activities that make the Lansing community a better place to live and work.”
The ATHENA award recognizes individuals who excel in professional accomplishments, community contributions and open paths for other women to follow. The ATHENA award was created by former Lansing Chamber President Martha Mertz in 1982 and has since spread around the world. There are now more than 6,000 awards being presented in over 500 communities in the United States, Canada, China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
